Charlie "Teriffic" Jones said, "You are the same person 10 years from now outside the books you read and the people you meet.

Remember, a Professional adapts to different people and situations.  This is important to consider with who you might share this profound and insightful quote.  Having done considerable speaking, giving presentations on products and services, to sharing insights concerning certain industries, or on particular specialized topics. 

One of my favorite presentations is emphasizing the importance of networking, meeting people, and reading books.  I consider the age of the audience when I share this VITAL, lifelong insight.  When I speak to high school and middle school youth, I simply use 1 year, instead of 10 years.  How can a 12 or 16-year-old put into perspective 10 years, and have it resonate?   For college students, I use 2 years as my foundation.  It is all about starting a new habit for many of them.

When speaking to 25 to 55-year-old professionals, I use 5 years from now.  Only when speaking to people over 55, do I use the 10-year measurement.  They can gauge 10 years more clearly than a 15 or even a 30-year-old.

To be an effective communicator involves several dynamics.
